Orang Australia Tergila-gila Pada Olahraga Hampir setiap orang Australia bermain atau menonton olahraga. Kalau orang tidak tahu bintang-bintang olahraga seperti Pat Rafter, Glenn McGrath atau Greg Norman, mereka tidak bisa berpartisipasi dalam percakapan umum seharihari. Orang Australia sungguh tergila-gila pada olahraga. Hal ini kelihatan jelas selama Olympiade di kota Sydney bulan yang lalu. Di mana-mana orang bercakap-cakap tentang olahraga sepanjang hari. Selama dua minggu kota Sydney dikunjungi oleh berbagai bangsa di dunia. Walaupun ada masalah bahasa, semua orang bersikap ramah. Di mana-mana orang tersenyum dan siap bercakap-cakap atau menolong pengunjung. Ada perasaan yang serupa dengan gotong-royong. Juga banyak orang yang menjadi pemandu, sopir dan pekerja yang tidak dibayar selama pesta olahraga ini. Sesudah Olympiade banyak anak bercita-cita menjadi olahragawan/olahragawati terkenal. Jumlah anak yang ikut klub atletik atau regu olahraga juga naik! Kebanyakan orang Australia beragama Kristen tetapi, pada hari Minggu lebih banyak orang Australia bermain atau menonton olahraga daripada pergi ke gereja.
