You MUST NOT write during this time. Monolingual and/or bilingual printed dictionaries may be consulted during the reading time and also during the examination. Section 1: Responding to texts (50 marks) Instructions to Students 1. This section will take approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. 2. Write all your answers to the questions in Section 1 in this booklet using black or blue pen. Space is provided for you to make notes. 3. You must answer ALL questions. 4. Answer in ENGLISH or in INDONESIAN as required. 5. 2 Section 1: Responding to texts 50 marks Attempt Questions 1 7 In Section 1, there are THREE aural texts Text 1, Text 2A and Text 2B. Each aural text will be played TWICE. There will be a short break between the first and second playings of each text in which you may make notes. Your answers to Section 1 will be assessed on how well you: summarise and/or synthesise information and ideas from texts infer points of view, opinions and attitudes respond personally and critically to texts analyse the way in which culture and identity are expressed communicate relevant information and ideas in either comprehensible INDONESIAN or ENGLISH as required create texts in a variety of forms appropriate to a range of contexts, purposes and audiences demonstrate control of a range of language structures and vocabulary in INDONESIAN 2

3 Question 1 (4 marks) Marks Text 1 will be played twice. There will be a short break between the first and second playings in which you may make notes. After you hear Text 1, you will have 6 minutes to answer Question 1 in the space provided. You will hear a warning signal 2 minutes before the end of this time. LISTEN to Text 1 and then answer the question that follows. 1. Ringkaslah strategi-strategi dalam kampanye ini. 4 Tulislah kurang lebih 30 kata dalam BAHASA INDONESIA. 4 Question 2 (7 marks) Marks Texts 2A and 2B will be played twice. There will be a short break between the first and second playings in which you may make notes. After the second playing the CD will be stopped. LISTEN to Texts 2A and 2B and then answer the question that follows. 2. Anda adalah Adi. 5 Question 3 (3 marks) Marks READ Text 3 and then answer the question that follows. Text 3 Newspaper Article Minggu lalu, Pusat Rehabilitasi Selamatkan Orangutan di Kalimantan Timur membebaskan seekor orangutan dan dalam waktu dua hari orangutan itu memakan habis seratus bibit kelapa sawit di sebuah perkebunan. Pemiliknya, Pak Irwan sangat terpukul. Dia merasa pusat rehabilitasi tersebut mungkin tidak menyadari betapa banyaknya masalah yang selama ini telah disebabkan oleh orangutan. Dia mengatakan, Orangutan itu banyak membawa kerugian. Contohnya, menyebabkan kecelakaan mobil dan mencuri makanan. Pernah orangutan jatuh ke dalam sumur dan mengotori air yang menyebabkan penyakit. Di lain pihak, Direktur Selamatkan Orangutan, Ibu Yunita, menegaskan pentingnya pusat tersebut untuk melestarikan spesies orangutan yang terancam punah. Dia menjelaskan, Manusia yang sudah merampas habitat orangutan termasuk makanan mereka. Bukankah manusia harus menunjukkan sikap toleransi terhadap spesies ini yang sudah sangat menderita akibat perbuatan manusia? Ini merupakan masalah rumit yang bisa diselesaikan lewat musyawarah dan mufakat oleh kedua belah pihak. 3. Bandingkanlah kedua perspektif yang disampaikan dalam artikel ini. 3 Tulislah kurang lebih 80 kata dalam BAHASA INDONESIA. Compare the two perspectives presented in this article. 6 Question 4 (7 marks) READ Text 4 and then answer the question that follows. Text 4 Blog Hari Jumat 16 Oktober Tadi malam, pas tiba di bandara Sukarno-Hatta, saya disambut oleh dua sopir taksi. Sambil tersenyum, yang satu bilang, Pakai taksi saya, Pak. Yang lain jawab, Jangan ikut dia. Mobilnya tua dan sering mogok. Apalagi AC-nya rusak. Yang aneh, sopir pertama ketawa saja. Dia tahu beginilah cara berbisnis di Indonesia. Kalau di Australia, sopir yang pertama pasti marah banget. Menuju ke hotel, lalu lintas sangat parah! Saya tak bisa menahan ketawa melihat papan iklan besar bertuliskan Lebih baik kejebak macet, daripada kejebak masa lalu. Di Australia macet tidak dianggap lucu, tapi di Indonesia, mau gimana lagi? Sambil menunggu di resepsi hotel, saya melihat ada sekelompok orang mengambil foto bersama. Si fotografer, laki-laki yang masih muda, sambil cengar-cengir berkata, Maaf, Bu, tolong perutnya dikempiskan sedikit karena tidak muat di foto. Saya terperangah tapi ibu itu malahan ketawa. Akhirnya kamu sadar akan rasa keterasingan yang kamu rasakan di Australia. Meskipun kamu lahir dan dibesarkan di Australia dan mengenyam pendidikan barat, kamu tetap orang Indonesia. Tentu saja Mama ingin kamu menjunjung tinggi adat dan tradisi keluarga kita. Sebagai cucu laki-laki tertua, kamu diharapkan untuk melanjutkan mengelola usaha pertanian cengkih opamu yang merupakan warisan keluarga. Hal ini mungkin jika kamu memilih kewarganegaraan Indonesia. Akan tetapi dilain pihak, ada banyak kesempatan di Australia. Sudah lama kamu bercita-cita untuk bekerja di Departemen Luar Negeri di Canberra yang mengharuskan kewarganegaraan Australia sebagai salah satu persyaratan.
