One or more script books. English Indonesian/Indonesian English dictionary. Guided notetaking sheet The task Please ensure that you write your student number in the space provided on the front cover(s) of the script book(s) and on the guided notetaking sheet. You should respond to the task in the script book(s) provided. There are three parts to the task. Part 1: Reading Part 2: Listening Part 3: Reorganisation Refer to pages 2 and 3 for detailed instructions. You should respond to the task in INDONESIAN. At the end of the task Place all other used script books and the guided notetaking sheet inside the front cover of the first script book and hand them in. You may retain this task book. 2 INDONSL CAT 3 A 2 Specific instructions to students You will find specific instructions for the task together with one or two written passages in INDONESIAN on the following pages. The material is related in topic and may include visual material such as diagrams or tables. You may take notes at any time during the two hour writing period. Part 1: Reading (20 minutes) You will have twenty minutes to read the passages and take notes, referring to a dictionary if you wish. Part 2: Listening (20 minutes) You will have twenty minutes, including two minutes of preparation time, to complete this part of the task. You should read the guided notetaking sheet provided before listening to the passage. Any notes written on this sheet should be submitted with your script book(s); credit may be given for information relevant to the task which is recorded there but not conveyed in the piece of writing produced to complete the task. Click on the blue words to hear a recorded passage in INDONESIAN which will add to the information provided in Part 1. The passage will involve at least two voices, one male and one female. Listen to the passage three times, with a pause of one minute between each playing. Part 3: Reorganisation (80 minutes) You will have eighty minutes to complete the task using the oral, written and, where included, the visual resources provided, notes made while reading and listening, and your dictionary. Use only information from the material provided to complete the task in approximately words.

Your script needs to be between words in length. To help you write the script, information you have gained from your conversation with the travel bureau has been recorded for you so that you can remember the details. You have also collected a brochure for further information, an entrance ticket, and you have your diary entries which were written while you were visiting Ambon. You must include twelve points of information in your script, five from the taped conversation, five from the written passages and visual material, and two additional points which are common to both the oral and written resources. Text 1: Brochure Selamat datang di Makam Pahlawan Australia Makam Pahlawan Australia yang indah ini dibuat sebagai tempat untuk sisasisa peninggalan tentara yang gugur pada Perang Dunia ke-2. Lebih dari tentara Australia, Selandia Baru dan India menjadi korban di Maluku dan Sulawesi. Taman ini terletak di puncak bukit, pemandangannya indah sekali. Teluk Ambon bisa terlihat dari sini. Taman ini terdiri dari beberapa bagian, dengan banyak pohon besar, lapangan yang luas, dan banyak jenis tumbuh-tumbuhan tropis. Ada bunga-bunga dari semua propinsi Indonesia, dan dari daerah tropis di luar Indonesia. Ada kurang lebih delapan tukang kebun yang bekerja di sini. Taman ini dipelihara dengan bantuan dana dari Pemerintah Australia. Setiap hari ANZAC ada kunjungan oleh seorang politikus dari Pemerintah Australia. Beliau meletakkan sebuah rangkaian bunga di sini sebagai tanda kenangan kepada tentara yang gugur. Di setiap kuburan ada batu nisan yang terbuat dari perunggu.di batu nisan tertulis namanya, bagian angkatan bersenjata dan sebuah kutipan. Ada 30 orang tentara Hindu dan Islam dari India dikubur di tempat lain, dalam bagian makam tersendiri. Kebanyakan yang dikubur di sini berumur dua puluhan tahun pada waktu gugur. Juga di makam ini ada banyak yang meninggal dunia waktu mereka menjadi tawanan perang. Dari mereka yang ditangkap oleh tentara Jepang, kurang lebih 25% saja masih hidup ketika perang itu selesai. Ada banyak penduduk Ambon yang juga menjadi korban pada perang ini, tetapi biasanya tidak diumumkan. Di makam ini tidak disediakan tempat untuk mengubur penduduk lokal. Kuburan untuk mereka ada di dekatnya. Penduduk Ambon berhubungan erat dengan orang Belanda. Masa ini ada banyak orang Ambon pindah ke Belanda pada waktu Indonesia menjadi merdeka. Generasi berikutnya masih merasa sebagai orang Ambon, sekalipun mereka belum pernah mengunjungi pulau Ambon. Jam buka: Taman ini dibuka pada hari Senin sampai hari Sabtu, jam 0930 sampai 1300.

5 Text 2: Diary Entries 5 INDONSL CAT 3 A Hari Senin Tadi malam kami kehujanan waktu pulang dari rumah makan. Aduh! Kami tidak membawa payung jadi pakaian kami basah kuyup! Makanan yang kami makan cukup enak, masakan tradisional Ambon. Ada juga masakan Jawa dan Padang, tetapi saya lebih senang mencoba masakan Ambon, karena belum pernah mencobanya. Untuk minuman saya memesan jus jeruk segar, enak sekali. Saya juga suka sekali minum kopi Bali, tanpa gula atau susu. Rumah makan itu juga bagus sekali. Ada band yang bermain musik. Harga makanan itu tidak terlalu mahal. **************************** Hari Selasa Dari jendela hotel kelihatan banyak gereja di ibu kota Ambon. Juga ada taman umum yang bagus sekali. Ada banyak pohon kelapa yang bisa terlihat dari jendela. Juga ada bungabunga yang berwarna-warni, beberapa jenis yang belum pernah saya lihat. Pemandangan dari kamar saya indah sekali, dan juga menarik. Ada banyak warung kecil yang bisa terlihat. Banyak barang dijual di warung-warung ini. **************************** Hari Rabu Tadi malam upacara perkawinan diadakan di Gereja Protestan yang dekat hotel ini, kemudian resepsi dirayakan di restoran di seberang jalan. Wah! Ramai sekali. Musik keroncong terdengar sampai larut malam. Hari ini saya ingin membeli perahu cengkeh, kerajinan tangan yang dibuat dari cengkeh, bukan perahu yang berlayar di laut! Sejarah pedagangan rempah-rempah sudah terkenal di kepulauan Maluku ini. Beberapa abad yang lalu orang Arab kemudian orang Portugis adalah orang pertama yang datang ke Ambon untuk mencari rempah-rempah, terutama cengkeh dan pala. Pada tahun 1605 pulau Ambon diserbu orang Belanda dan perdagangan rempah-rempah dikuasai oleh mereka. Cengkeh dan pala diperlukan di Eropa supaya makanan dapat diawetkan dan tentu saja karena rasanya menjadi lebih enak.
