ABSTRACT CICI TRIYANA. 2016. Correlation between Students Reading Achievement and Learning Strategies on the Fourth Semester of STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin. Thesis. English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training. Advisor I: Dra. Hj. Wardah Hayati, M.A. Advisor II: Nani Hizriani, M.A. Keywords: Students Reading Achievement, Learning Strategies The focus of this study is the correlation between students achievement and learning strategies in reading English. The statement problems of this research are: how students reading achievement on fourth semester of STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin is, what the most common of learning strategies used by the students in reading on fourth semester of STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin is and whether any correlation between students Reading achievement and their learning strategies used by the students on fourth semester of STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin is. The researcher chose the type of this research is field research. This research is quantitative research. To know the relationship between students achievement and learning strategies the researcher used r product moment formula and made sure the calculation with SPSS 22. So the researcher could compare value of manual calculation and SPSS. To collect the data, the researcher used some techniques such as test and questionner. Test is used to know the students achievement while questionnaier is used to know the students learning strategies. Subject of this research is 35 students on fourth semester, English Education Department of STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin. The objects of this research are reading achievement and learning strategies that used by students fourth semester, STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin. The result of this research showed that students achievement in reading is very poor category with the mean score 41.94, and then the researcher found out there are two kind common of learning strategies that used by students. There are cognitive and affective strategies. To know the correlatin based on the result of r product moment, it is 0.023, it means there is no correlation between students reading achievement and learning strategies. So, the hypothesis Ho is accepted, there is no significances between students reading achievement and learning strategies on fourth semester of STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin vii

Dosen Pembimbing I: Dra. Hj. Wardah Hayati, M.A. Dosen Pembimbing II: Nani Hizriani, M.A. Keywords: Pencapaian Membaca Mahasiswa, Strategi Belajar Fokus dari penelitian ini adalah hubungan antara pencapaian mahasiswa dan strategi belajar dalam membaca bahasa Inggris. Rumusan masalah dari penelitian ini adalah bagaimana pencapaian membaca mahasiswa semester empat STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin, Apa strategi belajar yang sering digunakan mahasiswan dalam membaca semester empat STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin dan apakah ada hubungan antara pencapaian membaca mahasiswa dan strategi belajar yang mereka gunakan semester empat STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin. Peneliti memilih tipe dari peneltian ini adalah penelitian lapangan. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pencapaian membaca mahasiswa dan strategi belajar peneliti menggunakan rumus r momen produk and memastikannya dengan menggunakan SPSS 22. Jadi peneliti membandingkan nilai secara manual dan nilai dari SPSS. Untuk mengoleksi data peneliti menggunakan beberapa teknik, seperti tes dan angket. Tes digunakan untuk mengetahui nilah mahasiswa dan angket untuk mengetahui strategi belajar. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 35 mahasiswa semester empat Jurusan Bahasa Inggris STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin. Objek penelitian ini adalah pencapaian membaca dan strategi belajar mahasisiwa semester empat STKIP PGRI Banjarmsin. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan pencapaian mahasiswa dalam membaca dikategorikan sangat rendah dengan nilai rata-rat 41,94, kemudian peneliti menemukan ada dua jenis strategi belajar yang sering digunakan oleh mahasiswa, yaitu strategi kognitif dan strategi afektif. Untuk mengetahu hubungan berdasarkan penelitian ini hasil dari r product moment, yaitu 0,023, ini berarti tidak ada hubungan antara pencapaian membaca mahasiswa dengan strategi belajar. Jadi, hipotesis Ho dapat diterima, yaitu tidak adanya signifikan antara pencapaian membaca mahasiswa dengan strategi belajar mahasiswa semester empat STKIP PGRI Banjarmasin. viii
