Keywords: Conjunction, Editorial, Script of the Speech Conjunction is an important matter in English skill especially in grammar. Conjunction is a word that uses to join words, phrases, sentences or clauses. There are four types of conjunction; they are Coordinate Conjunction, Subordinate Conjunction, Correlative Conjunction and Conjunctive Adverb. The functions of conjunction are as to show addition, reason, time, contrast, alternative choice, result, condition, purpose, manner, and to connect similar ideas. Conjunction can be found in the written and spoken text. The example of written text is newspaper and for the spoken text is speech. The objectives of this research are (i) to find out the types of conjunction found in the Editorial of the Jakarta Post in April 2011 and the script of Susilo Bambang Yudoyono s speech at the Opening of the 18 th Asean Summit, and (ii) to find out the functions of conjunction found in the Editorial of the Jakarta Post in April 2011 and the script of Susilo Bambang Yudoyono s speech at the Opening of the 18 th Asean Summit. The method used by the writer is descriptive qualitative research. The data sources in this research are taken from the Editorial of the Jakarta Post in April 2011 and the script of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono s Speech at the Opening of the 18 th Asean Summit. The result of this research finds that (i) the types of conjunction found in the Editorial of The Jakarta Post in April 2011 are 52 Coordinate conjunctions, 1 Correlative conjunction, 24 Subordinate conjunctions and 9 Conjunctive adverbs. While in the script of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono s speech at the Opening of the 18 th Asean Summit, they are 64 Coordinate conjunctions, 2 Correlative conjunction, 9 Subordinate conjunctions and 3 Conjunctive adverbs. (ii) the functions of conjunction found in the Editorial of The Jakarta Post in April 2011 are to show: addition, equal similar ideas, contrast, alternative choices, reason, result, time, condition and comparison. While in the script of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono s speech at the Opening of the 18 th Asean Summit are to show: addition, equal similar ideas, contrast, reason, result, time, condition and purpose. Based on the result above, the writer suggests for the teacher and the students. To the teacher, newspaper and script of speech can be used as a material and reference in understanding conjunctions. While to the students, they can learn more about English especially about the conjunction, because conjunction has important thing in written and spoken language and also it has many types and function ix

Kata kunci: Kata Penghubung, Editorial, Naskah Pidato Kata penghubung adalah suatu materi penting dalam ketrampilan berbahasa Inggris terutama dalam grammar. Kata penghubung adalah kata yang digunakan untuk menggabungkan kata-kata, frase-frase, kalimat-kalimat atau klausa. Disini ada empat jenis kata penghubung yaitu, kata penghubung setara, kata penghubung bertingkat, kata penghubung berhubungan dan kata penghubung keterangan. Fungsi kata penghubung adalah sebagai penunjuk pena,bahan, alas an, waktu, perbedaan, pilihan, hasil, syarat, tujuan, cara, dan untuk menghubungkan kata yang setara. Jenis-jenis kata penghubung dapat ditemukan di dalam text tertulis dan lisan. Contoh text tertulis adalah koran dan untuk text lisan adalah pidato. Tujuan dari analisis ini adalah (i) untuk menemukan jenis-jenis kata penghubung yang terdapat dalam editorial dari koran The Jakarta Post bulan April 2011 dan naskah pidato Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono pada Pembukaan Konferensi ASEAN yang ke-18, dan (ii) untuk menemukan fungsi-fungsi kata penghubung yang terdapat dalam editorial dari koran The Jakarta Post bulan April 2011 dan naskah pidato Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono pada Pembukaan Konferensi ASEAN yang ke-18. Metode yang digunakan oleh penulis yaitu metode kualitatif deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini diambil dari koran The Jakarta Post bulan April 2011 dan naskah pidato Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono pada Pembukaan Konferensi ASEAN yang ke-18. Hasil dari riset ini menunjukkan bahwa (i) jenis-jenis kata penghubung yang terdapat dalam editorial dari koran The Jakarta Post bulan April 2011 adalah 52 kata penghubung setara, 1 kata penghubung berhubungan, 24 kata penghubung bertingkat dan 9 kata penghubung keterangan. Sementara dalam naskah pidato Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono pada Pembukaan Konferensi ASEAN yang ke-18 adalah 64 kata penghubung setara, 2 kata penghubung berhubungan, 9 kata penghubung bertingkat dan 3 kata penghubung keterangan. (ii) fungus-fungsi kata penghubung yang terdapat dalam editorial dari koran The Jakarta Post bulan April 2011 adalah untuk menunjukkan penambahan, kata yang setara, perbedaan, pilihan, alas an, hasil, waktu, syarat, dan perbandingan. Sementara dalam naskah pidato Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono pada Pembukaan Konferensi ASEAN yang ke-18 adalah untuk menunjukkan penambahan, kata yang setara, perbedaan, alasan, hasil, waktu, syarat dan tujuan. x
Berdasarkan hasil diatas, penulis memberikan saran kepada para guru dan murid. Kepada guru, koran dan naskah pidato dapat digunakan sebagai media dan referensi dalam memahami kata penghubung. Sementara pada para murid, mereka dapa lebih belajar tentang bahasa Inggris khususnya tentang kata penghubung, karena kata penghubung adalah hal penting dalam menulis dan berbicara dari sebuah bahasa dan ini juga mempunyai banyak jenis dan fungsi. xi
