ABSTRACT Aftina, Esti. 2012. The Listening Ability of Tenth Grade Students of SMA N 2 Kudus Taught by Using Running Dictation In The Academic Year 2012/2013. Skripsi: English Education Department Teacher Training and Education Faculty Muria Kudus University. Advisors: (1) Drs. Muh. Syafei, M.Pd, (2) Titis Sulistyowati, SS, M.Pd Key word: listening, running dictation The beginning steps in learning language is listening. It means that we listen to the sounds of the words first and we try to imitate the word as possible. Listening is understand and respond the sound of speech and processing them into words and sentences. Running dictation is one of game used in English teaching. Running dictation is the game in which students work in group. Every group consists of four or five students in which students are given the oppoturnity to interact with their group in a way to run and dictate text has been prepared. The objectives of this research are: To find out the listening ability of tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 before being taught by using running dictation. To find out the listening ability of tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 after being taught by using running dictation. To find out whether there is any significance difference between the listening ability of tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 before and after being taught by using running dictation. The population of the research was the tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Kudus. In taking the sample of the research, the writer uses cluster random sampling technique. The writer gets X-7 as the sample of the research. The design of this research was experimental research. The writer uses one group pre-test post-test. The result of the experiment shows that the calculation of t-test, with the level of significance 5%, the Degree of Freedom (Df) 29, and t-table (t t ) 2.045, the t-observation (t o ) obtained 12.60. In the words, t-observation is higher than t-table. The listening ability of tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 after being taught by using Running Dictation is good. It is showed by the mean is 79.33 and standard deviation 7.5. it is higher than the mean of the listening ability of tenth grade students of SMA N 2 Kudus in the academic year 2012/2013 before being taught by using Running Dictation which the mean 55.73 and standard deviation 9.87. It is categorized as sufficient. The suggestion for this research is for the teacher should use Running Dictation for teaching listening. Using Running Dictation can motivate the students to learn English especially in listening. ix

Ini berarti bahwa kita mendengarkan suara dari kata-kata pertama dan mencoba untuk meniru kata sebaik mungkin. Mendengarkan adalah mengidentifikasi suara dan pengolahan suara ke dalam kata-kata dan kalimat. Running Dictation merupakan salah satu permainan yang digunakan dalam pengajaran bahasa Inggris. Running Dictation adalah permainan di mana siswa bekerja dalam kelompok. Setiap kelompok terdiri dari empat atau lima siswa di mana siswa diberi kesempatan untuk berinteraksi dengan kelompok mereka dengan cara untuk menjalankan dan menentukan teks yang telah disiapkan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: Untuk mengetahui kemampuan mendengarkan siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013 sebelum diajarkan dengan menggunakan dikte berjalan. Untuk mengetahui kemampuan mendengarkan siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013 setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan dikte berjalan. Untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan mendengarkan siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013 sebelum dan sesudah diajarkan dengan menggunakan dikte berjalan. Subyek penelitian adalah siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Kudus. Dalam pengambilan sampel penelitian, penulis menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Penulis mendapat X-7 sebagai sampel penelitian. Rancangan penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental. Penulis menggunakan one group pre-test posttest. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perhitungan t-test, dengan tingkat signifikansi 5%, Derajat Kebebasan, (Df) 29 dan t-tabel (tt) 2,045, t- observasi (untuk) diperoleh 12,60. Dalam kata-kata, t-observasi lebih besar dari t- tabel. Kemampuan mendengarkan siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013 setelah diajarkan dengan menggunakan Dikte Menjalankan adalah "baik". Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan rata-rata adalah 79,33 dan standar deviasi 7,5. itu lebih tinggi dari rata-rata kemampuan mendengarkan siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013 sebelum diajarkan dengan menggunakan Dikte Menjalankan yang berarti 55.73 dan standar deviasi 9,87. Hal ini dikategorikan sebagai "cukup". x

Hipotesis penelitian ini menyatakan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kemampuan menyimak siswa kelas X SMA N 2 Kudus pada tahun akademik 2012/2013 dikonfirmasi. xi
