INTRODUCTION Reading skill is about understanding written text. At the end the students should understand what is content of the text and what is the text tell about. It is not only passage, but also include of the others written text, such as letter, announcement, notice, etc. In teaching reading process, the teacher should know the students reading level based on the students reading comprehension. In contrast, when the writer did teaching practice at SMAN 4 Solok Selatan, most of the students got difficult in reading. These problems happen because some factors. First, students did not understand about the text because their difficult to understand it. So that, the students cannot answers the questions. Second, the students did not understand about the questions, as a result, the student s only guest or cheating from their friends. Finally, the students felt difficult to find the topic and main idea from the text because they do not know or understand about the text, they lack of vocabulary and the teacher did not use appropriate strategy in teaching reading. As a result, they often ask to their teacher what are the meanings of the words that they did not know. This problem not only comes from the students but also from the teacher, it is can be the teacher not use the appropriate strategy in teaching reading. Actually there are some strategies that can be use in teaching reading such as; CLICK and CLUNK strategy and 3H (HERE, HIDDEN, in the HEAD) strategy. And the writer use combining click and clunk strategy and 3H (Here, Hidden, in the Head) strategy in teaching reading. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE Reading is essential skill for learners of English as a second language. This skill becomes a bridge for students to understand the text that they have read. Nunan (2003:68) states that reading is a fluent process of readers combining information from a text and their
own background knowledge to build meaning. Next, Seyler (2004:3) explains that reading is the process of obtaining or constructing meaning from a word or cluster when the words are joining together can constructing. DISCUSSION CLICK AND CLUNK STRATEGY In teaching reading there are many strategies that can be use to solve the reading problem, one of them is click and clunk strategy. Sadler (2001:4) states that click and clunk strategy is an excellent means to assess what information that students have learned and what information need to be covered in more depth. It means that this strategy helps students recognize the information that do not understand, and assist them in getting the information they need. 3H (HERE, HIDDEN, IN THE HEAD) STRATEGY Westwood (2008:46) states that 3H (here, Hidden in the Head) is a strategy to help students appreciate that answer to questions are not necessarily stated explicitly within a text and that often one must think carefully and go beyond the words. The answer is either explicitly stated in the text (here), reader think carefully about some information on the text (Hidden), the information not in the text but already in the student s prior knowledge (in the Head). PROCEDURE OF CLICK AND CLUNK AND 3H STRATEGY CONCLUSION According to Sadler (2001: 4) and Westwood (2008:47) implimentation of both of strategy are: First, The students create two columns on their paper and label them click and clunk. Second, The students read the text.
Third, The students list what they really understand (click) and what they do not understand (clunk). feedback. Next, teacher demonstrates the third possibility, namely that the answer is not here or hidden but Fourth, Each group, discuss the must be located from sources outside clunk and try to clarify the the text, for example from what a information. This can be done through direct teacher instruction or by allowing students who understand the issue to explain in to the students. And next, teacher poses a question related to the text And than, the teacher demonstrates (by thinking aloud ) how to locate relevant information on the page (here). And Students practice this step to find answers to additional questions, with feedback from the teacher. Next, Teacher demonstrates the second possibility, using information on the page to infer or predict a possible answer (hidden). And also, the students practice step 1, step 2 together with guidance and student already knows. And the last students practice step 1, step 2 and step 3with guidance and feedback. Based on the discussion above, the writer can be concluded that reading is an activity when students get some information and reading as a communication between the writer and reader through the message in their written text. By reading, everyone get more information, not only about knowledge but also about technology and education. In teaching reading, there are some of text that related with reading. One of them is narrative text. Teaching reading comprehension need creative teacher, active student s, the good material and also strategy that use in teaching learning process. Combining of click and clunk with
3H (here, hidden and in the head) strategy is the good way for teacher in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text, because the students can easy to understand about the text and also the good strategy to found the answer from the questions that explicitly or implicitly easier.
