SUMMARY RESULT OF DATA ANALYSIS OF SUSENAS 2005-2006 ON BREASTFEEDING PRACTICES National Socio-economic Survey (Susenas) in 2005 and 2006 were carried out in all provinces in Indonesia. Number of samples in 2005 which using core questionnaire (Daftar VSEN2005.K) were 278.352 household, 96.813 household out of the samples were asked questionaire Section V.B. regarding Health Status of Children Underfive 0-59 month. Questionaire Section V.B that include data of Breastfeeding Practices. Similar questionnaire was used in Susenas 2006 (Daftar VSEN2006.K) for 96.677 household that have children under five from 277.648 household samples. The objectives of data analysis on breastfeeding from Susenas 2005 and 2006, are: 1. To gain information on breastfeeding practices among mothers 2. To draw coverage of exclusively breastfeeding for 0-6 month 3. To draw coverage of exclusively breastfeeding up to 6 months Data analysis results, as follows: 1. Almost all mothers who have children under five 0-59 month have ever breastfeed their babies, as shown in Table 1 there are 96.1% mothers ever breastfed in 2005 and 95.5% in 2006. 2. As shown in Table 2, percentage of exclusively breastfeeding for 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, 4 months, 5 months and 6 months are 100%, 80.9%, 66.3%, 49.4%, 28.8% and 18.1% respectively in 2005, where in 2006 are 100%, 85.5%, 69.0%, 56.1%, 27.7% and 21.2% respectively. 3. Table 3 show percentage of exclusively breastfeeding for 0-4 month and 0-6 month in 2005 and 2006. It show that percentage of exclusively breastfeeding for 0-4 month are 73.3% in 2005 and 75.2% in 2006, and the percentage of exclusively breastfeeding for 0-6 month are 49.0% in 2005 and 58.5% in 2006. 4. Profiles of breastfeeding practices in all provinces in Indonesia in 2005 and 2006 are shown in next tables. Based on the results it can be concluded that exclusively breastfeeding practices for 6 months among mothers in Indonesia tend to increase from 18.1% in 2005 to 21.2% in 2006. Considering the improvement of breastfeeding practices, Ministry of Health will continue to carry out the existing program, such as training of breastfeeding counsellor dan training of trainer of training of breastfeeding counsellor, revitalization of Mother and Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative (MBFHI), communication, education and imformation (CIE).
