ABSTRACT This research is attempting to address how the attitudes of first grade students in Kebon Dalem Junior High School toward out-of-class English language learning. The writer also wants to know what the students in first grade Kebon Dlem Junior High School do to help them learn English language out of the classroom. For the first purpose of this research, the writer analyzed the data using descriptive statistic to find out if the attitudes of the students are good or bad. For the second purpose of this research, the writer gives description about what the students do in learning English language out of the classroom. In this research, the writer found that the good attitudes dominated the Kebon Dalem Junior High School students in learning English language out of school. It can be seen from the result of the research that indicates the overall average of the student s answer is 2.91 which is including in the good criteria. The writer also found that the students in Kebon Dalem Junior High School have done many things to learn English outside of classroom, such as following the English course or private course, using computer programs to learn English, reading English books, speaking in English, watching the English movie or television, following the English competition, and asking their sisters or brothers that could help them learn English language outside of the classroom. vii
ABSTRAK Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana perilaku para siswa kelas satu di Sekolah Menengah Pertama Kebon Dalem terhadap pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang dilakukan mereka diluar sekolah. Penulis juga ingin mengetahui kegiatan apa saja yang dilakukan oleh siswa kelas satu Sekolah Menengah Pertama Kebon Dalem dalam membantu mereka mempelajari Bahasa Inggris diluar sekolah. Untuk tujuan penelitian yang pertama, penulis menganalisa dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif untuk mengetahui apakah perilaku para siswa itu baik atau buruk. Sedangkan untuk tujuan penelitian yang kedua, penulis memberikan gambaran mengenai apa yang dilakukan para siswa dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris diluar sekolah. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menemukan bahwa ternyata perilaku yang baik mendominasi para siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama Kebon Dalem dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris diluar lingkungan sekolah. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil penelitian yang menunjukkan rata-rata jawaban keseluruhan murid adalah 2.91 dan menunjukan indikasi perilaku yang baik. Penulis juga menemukan bahwa siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama Kebon Dalem telah melakukan berbagai hal seperti mengikuti kursus dan les privat bahasa inggris, menggunakan program komputer untuk mempelajari bahasa inggris, membaca buku berbahasa inggris, berbicara dengan bahasa inggris, menonton film atau televisi berbahasa inggris, mengikuti kompetisi bahasa inggris, dan bertanya pada kakak atau adiknya yang dapat membantu mereka dalam mempelajari Bahasa Inggris diluar sekolah. viii
