ABSTRACT Evaluation of Performance of a Hot Rolled Asphalt Mixture Containing Butonite Mastic Asphalt, Witta Fitrasari,ST, 2004, Transportation Engineering of Civil Engineering Post Graduate Program, Institute Technology of Bandung Butonite Mastic Asphalt is a product of development of ASBUTON, obtained after mixing certain proportions of Micro ASBUTON, Pen 60' 70 bitumen, and a flux agent at an elevated temperature, to reach a desired Penetration Index. The one used here is BMA 40/50 comprising 65.5% Micro ASBUTON with 27.4% bitumen content, 20% of Pen 60 bitumen, and 5.5% of a flux agent The objective of the study is to evaluate in the laboratory the structural performance of a Type-C HRA mixture containing BMA 40/50, where the role of the filler from BMA is compared to that from stone-dust. The performance of each mixture was evaluated with the Marshall, Marshall Immersion, Indirect Tensile Strengtt, Wheel Tracking and Resilient Modulus tests. Test results show that samples of HRA containing BMA have an Index of Retained Stability of 86.28 %, Indirect Tensile Strength of 1.18, 0. 42, 0.26 N/mm` at respectively 25, 45 and 60 C, Permanent Deformation of 0.97 and 1.56 mm at respectively 45 and 60 C and a Resilient Modulus value of 1963 and 442.7 MPa at respectively 25 and 45 C. As comparison, the results of HRA using stone-dust filler are an Index of Retained Stability of 75.64%, Indirect Tensile Strength of 1.12, 0.19 and 0.16 N/mm` at respectively 25, 45 and 60 C, Permanent Deformation of 1. 18 and 2.42 mm at respectively 45 and 60 C and a Resilient Modulus value of 1678 and 221. 7 MPa at respectively 25 and 45 C. The study concludes that the HRA mixture containing BMA has a better performance compared to the HRA mixture containing stone-dust.
