1 ABSTRACT Company value is one of determining factors for the investors and the company itself in measuring the condition of a company. The higher the value of the company, means the healthier the company and safe to invest. Regards on that, this research tried to identify the variables that affect the value of the company. The variables in used are capital structure through debt and equity ratio and financial performance include ROA. Samples were taken by using purposive sampling. Sample in used are companies which listed on LQ 45 for period February 2011 until July 2011 with complete financial statement from Path analysis data regression model used in this research as a model of data analysis. The results showed the capital structure has negative impact on ROA and firm value. ROA has positive effect on firm value. Negatif effects of capital structure on firm value will be decrease when using ROA as an intervening variable. Key words: capital structure, financial performance, company value vii
2 ABSTRAK Nilai perusahaan merupakan salah satu faktor penentu bagi investor maupun perusahaan sendiri dalam mengukur kondisi suatu perusahaan. Semakin tinggi nilai perusahaan, mengkondisikan perusahaan yang semakin sehat dan aman dalam melakukan investasi. Berkenaan dengan hal tersebut, maka penelitian ini mencoba untuk mengidentifikasi variabel yang mempengaruhi nilai perusahaan tersebut. Adapun variabel yang digunakan meliputi struktur modal melalui perbandingan hutang dan modal, serta kinerja keuangan yang meliputi ROA. Sampel diambil dengan menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Sampel yang digunakan adalah perusahaan yang terdaftar dalam LQ 45 periode Februari 2011 s/d Juli 2011 dengan memiliki laporan keuangan lengkap selama periode Model regresi data path analysis digunakan dalam penelitian ini sebagai model analisis data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan struktur modal memiliki pengaruh negatif terhadap ROA dan nilai perusahaan. ROA memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap nilai perusahaan. Pengaruh negatif struktur modal terhadap nilai perusahaan akan lebih kecil apabila menggunakan ROA sebagai variabel intervening. Kata kunci: Struktur modal, kinerja keuangan, nilai perusahaan viii
