Kata-kata kunci : Benturan, system MDOF, beban dinamik, gap, kerusakan, Runge-Kutta, metode elemen hingga.
NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF POUNDING BETWEEN TWO THREE-DIMENSIONAL STRUCTURES UNDER DYNAMIC LOADS Abstract This report presents the effect of pounding between two adjacent buildings modeled as three-dimensional structures (MDOF system ) under dynamic load or earthquake. The main cause of this pounding is due to the required initial gap between the buildings for their free vibration response is not satisfied. Pounding can generate extra internal forces to the buildings in addition to the ones developed by earthquake alone. These generated forces are rarely taken into account in the initial structural design of the buildings. The superposition of these forces can produce an amplification in the dynamic response of the buildings. Thus, pounding can cause non-structural damage and / or structural damage, such as the collapse of the building. The development of the analysis of the pounding was carried out by numerical method; in this study, Runge-Kutta method has been applied The stiffness and mass matrix of the structures have been determined by finite element method The parameters of the study are mass, stiffness of plate, beam and column elements, gap between buildings; whereas the impact parameters as the result of the analysis are impact force, coefficient of restitution, displacement, acceleration of the mass as well as energy dissipation. The result of this study shows that impact force increases with the mass and the asymmetric characteristic of the buildings. On the contrary, this impact force increases when the initial gap decreases. General result of this study shows that pounding cause a disadvantage consequence on the building.
