GREETINGS GREETINGS Rahardja Alimhamzah Acting President Director BII M. Hasan Ketua Pengurus Besar Persatuan Atletik Seluruh Indonesia Salam Olahraga! Greetings! Salam Olahraga! Greetings! Push Your Limit! BII Maybank Bali Marathon (BMBM) is organized to bring PT Bank Internasional Indonesia (BII) closer to the people, capturing the growing interests of Indonesian communities for sport activities in particular running. BMBM is the first international marathon race held in Indonesia in the last 20 years. Adopting the theme of Push Your Limit, BII aims to encourage people to always have fighting spirits and do everything to the best of their abilities to achieve their goals. With Bali as the venue of the race, this event is not merely a sport occasion, but it is also a part of exciting tourism activity. We are grateful to all communities and local government of Bali for the great support for this event. As we will also conduct Corporate Responsibility for Gianyar communities and 17 schools located at the race areas. BII will support Gianyar communities through Yayasan Bumi Sehat in providing health care for women and children and provide sport equipments for 17 schools located along the race route. We do hope that our CR programs will be useful to the beneficiaries. We would also like to express our appreciation to Berlari Untuk Berbagi (BUB), International Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF), Persatuan Atletik Seluruh Indonesia (PASI), sponsors, partners and other parties who have been greatly supporting the race. To all participants, all the best of luck and Push Your Limit! This first BII Maybank Bali Marathon should be appreciated for bringing a fresh new look at athletics in Indonesia. This is attributed to the rare occasion of a marathon championship in the country, leading to national runners having to go abroad to test their potential. In marathon, Indonesia is not only the best in east Asia, but is also considered in Asia. On another note, fans of the sport have been waiting for a long time for a prestigious championship that could be a proving ground to realize their personal goals. According to information that has been given to me, the level enthusiasm is high and the race is professionally organized. I sincerely hope this race will sharpen the performance of Indonesian athletes. Choosing Bali as the location of the race brings a unique perspective with its beautiful panoramic landscapes. If it is held consistently, I hope that BII Maybank Bali Marathon will become a permanent fixture in the marathon world and a fixture that is par with other great races. A big appreciation goes to BII Maybank for this positive nudge forward and their dedication. Hopefully this will bring a positive outcome to your undertakings. To all participants, I wish you the best of luck and enjoy this championship. 6 7

Description The idea to organize a marathon race came from Michel Bréal, who wanted the event to be a part of the first modern Olympic games in 1986 in Athens. As a result, Spyridon Spyros Louis won the first ever Olympic Marathon, on April 10, 1986, with a time of 2 hours 58 minutes and 50 seconds. Ever since then, various marathon championships are held throughout the world - on record, there are over than 500 marathon championships held annualy. Some are organized by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) which was founded in 1982 and has members in 83 countries.
