1 SHOW DAILY 1 INCORPORATING WITH featuring Wednesday 7 November 2018 Highly effective solution New dual-axis multibeam AESA radar for small warships and support vessels page 8 Being showcased here at Indo Defence for the first time are the first two examples of the Medium Tank (MT), which has been jointly developed over a four-year period by FNSS Savunma Sistemleri of Turkey (Stand A050D) and PT Pindad of Indonesia (Hall B, Stand B345) to meet the operational requirements of the Indonesian Army. Formal qualification tests started in July and were completed in August in Indonesia. Three phases were conducted, comprising mine tests, endurance and firing trials. The mine tests were carried out on an MT hull and were successfully completed in July, according to FNSS. The endurance tests were carried out in Java from 6-16 August, during which the vehicle travelled almost 2,000km on the western part of the island and was put through its paces in various types of terrain and under different climatic conditions. Firing tests were carried out in Bandung between 25 and 27 August, during which the MT successfully engaged moving targets while the platform was also moving. The MT is fitted with the latest CMI Defence Cockerill 3105 turret, which is armed with a high-pressure 105mm rifled gun that can fire various natures of NATO standard 105mm ammunition. The 105mm gun is fed by a bustlemounted automatic loader, which has enabled the turret crew to be reduced to commander and gunner. The turret is also armed with a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. The computerised fire control system enables the MT to successfully engage stationary and moving targets while the platform is moving. The commander s roof-mounted stabilised sight enables hunter/killer target engagements. Main battle tanks today commonly weigh 60 tonnes or more, which can limit their mobility on existing road networks; the new MT is much lighter and therefore more deployable. According to K Nail Kurt, general manager and CEO of FNSS, Medium Tank will be a highly effective solution in today s conditions of asymmetric warfare. The vehicle meets all of the requirements of an easy and rapid positioning, high-mobility, low-visibility, high-firepower and cost-effective medium weight tank. It is expected that Indonesia will place a minimum initial contract for 44 units for the MT for the Indonesian Army. 3 3 PHOTO: MIKE GLENDINNING End-to-end protection Leonardo (Hall D, Stand D208) is pitching its BriteEye electronic warfare suite to meet an Indonesian air force requirement for a selfprotection capability for its BAE Systems Hawk light attack/trainer fleet, building on the SEER capability already installed on board the aircraft. The system is a low-cost aircraft protection system that defends platforms from radar-guided threats in a single system, cueing the launch of appropriate effects from a countermeasure dispensing system. It incorporates the company s SEER radar warning receiver (RWR) capability to detect the threats a system that is already integrated onto Indonesia s Hawks before cueing countermeasures including flare or Leonardo s BriteCloud expendable radar-jamming decoy. As Leonardo provides the whole suite, it can offer an end-to-end radio-frequency protection capability, offering more interoperability between the different elements, it says. Our SEER radar warning receiver, which detects and identifies potential radar threats and alerts the pilot, is already installed on board Indonesian air force Hawks, Alberto Pietra, director of marketing and sales for Leonardo s Airborne and Space Systems division, told the Show Daily. We re now looking to go a step further and are offering complete end-to-end protection from radar-guided threats, including our world-leading BriteCloud expendable radar-jamming decoy, which is now in service with the UK s Royal Air Force. Indonesia has been actively seeking a RWR capability for its Hawk fleet, in order to effectively protect it during light attack missions. With BriteEye on board, the Indonesian air force would have the freedom to operate in areas that would otherwise be off-limits due to modern ground radar emplacements, Pietra noted. Any incoming radar-guided threats would be picked up by SEER and could then be automatically directed away from the aircraft by our BriteCloud decoy, without adding any additional workload for the pilot. Leonardo added that it is already working with Indonesian pilots and technicians to ensure the air force is getting the most out of its SEER systems; updating them so they can effectively react to new threats as they emerge. In an obvious push to further promote its flagship medium-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to Indonesia, Anka for Indonesia? Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI, Stand A050M, Turkey pavilion) has a full-sized model of its Anka on display here at the show. Proudly sitting in the corner of Hall B1, the aircraft is here just three months after TAI announced it is seeking opportunities to collaborate with Indonesian industry in order to pitch Anka for a local tender. TAI has said it will modify the system as needed to meet any specific requirements Indonesia may have, and will do so by incorporating local suppliers into the supply chain. This co-operation will not be limited to UAVs, but will also be open to other potential markets and requirements. Anka is being displayed with its satellite communications capability, as well as a weapons fit including Roketsan s 22kg MAM-L Smart Micro Munition. The UAV has a 17.3m wingspan, a 200kg payload capacity, and an endurance of some 24 hours.

4 More effective firepower 4 BY CHRISTOPHER F FOSS Many countries in the region are now boosting their firepower with the introduction of new towed and self-propelled (SP) artillery systems, tracked and wheeled, and artillery rocket systems (ARSs), which not only have longer ranges but also carry more effective ammunition. While the SP systems are more expensive to procure and operate than conventional towed artillery systems, their advantage is that they can come into action much more quickly, carry out a fire mission and then redeploy before any counter-battery fire, making them more survivable. The latest artillery system to enter service with Indonesia is the French Nexter Systems CAESAR 155mm/52 calibre based on a 6x6 chassis, which can be rapidly deployed over long distances without requiring heavy equipment transporters. An initial batch of 37 has been delivered; an order for an additional 18 was placed in early Indonesia s armed forces have taken delivery of 155mm/39 calibre M109A4 SPs from Belgium, and also deploy 105mm towed artillery Singapore has now standardised on 155mm towed and SP artillery systems, including this 155mm/ 39 calibre Pegasus LWH systems, which can more easily be transported by helicopter. The more recent acquisition is the Nexter Systems 105mm LG1 Mk II for the marines. Following the acquisition of surplus 155mm/39 calibre FH-70 towed howitzers fitted with an auxiliary power unit (APU), Malaysia procured some 28 South African Denel Land Systems G5 155mm/52 calibre artillery systems. Singapore has now replaced all its 105mm towed systems with a mixture of 155mm towed and SP artillery systems developed by ST Engineering Land Systems, including the 155mm/39 calibre Primus tracked SP, the 155mm/52 calibre FH2000 fitted with an APU, and the more recent Pegasus 155mm/ 39 calibre Light Weight Howitzer (LWH), which is also fitted with an APU to assist its deployment in marginal terrain. Singapore has additionally developed and fielded the locally developed 120mm Super Rapid Advanced Mortar System (SRAMS) integrated onto the rear of its Bronco tracked all-terrain vehicle. Both Indonesia and Malaysia have now deployed the Brazilian AVIBRAS ASTROS ARS, which fires a complete family of unguided rockets, while Singapore has now taken delivery of the Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control M mm (six-round) High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), which fires guided rockets fitted with a unitary warhead. Field artillery traditionally fires high-explosive (HE) smoke and illuminating rounds and, to enable targets to be engaged at longer ranges, rocket-assisted projectiles (RAPs) and base bleed (BB) 155mm artillery projectiles are being deployed in increasing numbers. Some countries are now insisting that all new artillery munitions are of the insensitive munition (IM) type, which will not explode when subjected to fire. For greater accuracy, 155mm artillery projectiles can be fitted with a kit such as the Northrop Grumman Armament Systems (previously ATK Armament Systems) M1156 Precision Guidance Kit (PGK). Fitted with a deep well fuze, this gives a circular error of probability (CEP) of 10m or less, enabling targets to be engaged with precision effect and less collateral damage. The use of a PGK means fewer artillery projectiles are required to neutralise the target in turn reducing the logistic burden.

5 Indonesian Nexter 155mm/52 calibre CAESAR self-propelled artillery system carrying out a fire mission Older bag-type propellant charges have now given way in many countries to a modular charge system (MCS) or bi-mcs, which are especially useful when being used with an automatic ammunition handling system. French Nexter Systems 105mm LG1 Mk II in the firing position 5 When used with a 155mm/52 calibre artillery system, a maximum of six MCSs would be employed to achieve maximum range, while a 155mm/39 calibre artillery system would require only five. The deployment of new artillery systems with larger calibres, having longer ranges and firing more effective ammunition, is only one part of a complete artillery system. Target acquisition is still key and the rapid detection of targets at longer ranges can be very difficult, especially in some of the terrain conditions encountered in the region. While forward observation officers provided with portable target acquisition systems consisting of day/night observation devices, laser rangefinders and navigation systems are still used, targets at longer ranges have to be detected by other means such as artillery location radars and unmanned aerial vehicles, which can relay target information in real time. Increased emphasis is on joint fires, which not only includes artillery and mortar assets but also fast jets, attack helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles and in some cases naval gunfire support. While close-air support is very valuable, it is only the field artillery that can rapidly provide indirect fire support on a 24/7 basis in all weathers. More missiles for Thailand Diehl Defence (Hall A, Stand A386) has consolidated its successful co-operation with the Royal Thai Air Force with another contract for the supply of IRIS-T (InfraRed Imaging System Tail/Thrust Vector Controlled) short-range air-to-air missiles. The European missile was selected by Thailand as early as 2011 for arming first its Gripen and later also the F-16 fighter aircraft. The new procurement plans to integrate the missile additionally into the F-5 fleet, making IRIS-T the standard armament of the Royal Thai Air Force. IRIS-T is one of the world s most advanced short-range air-to-air missiles. The combination of thrust vector and aerodynamic control provides the missile with extremely high agility. An additional technological leap was achieved with the imaging IR seeker head in conjunction with intelligent image processing. Target designation is accomplished by airborne radar or via the pilot s helmet sight. In addition to defeating enemy fighter aircraft, a self-defence capability against attacking air-toair or ground-to-air missiles is provided by IRIS-T. Even attacks from the rear can successfully be defeated without having to change the course of the aircraft. As a multi-purpose weapon, IRIS-T is also used as a surface-to-air missile in a groundbased air defence role. The missile was developed within a European co-operation programme and was procured by Germany, Greece, Italy, Norway, Spain and Sweden as the successor to the ageing Sidewinder missiles. Series production started in Other user states today include Austria, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Thailand.

6 MMP yang sedang naik daun 6 BY CHRISTOPHER F FOSS MBDA (Hall D, Stand D210) mengonfirmasikan bahwa tentara Perancis telah sukses dalam peluncuran Missile Moyenne Portée (MMP) anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) di Djibouti pada bulan Agustus dan September 2018, dan sudah membuktikan kesuksesan pengoperasiannya di medan perang. MMP merupakan pengganti MILAN dan US Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin ATGM yang digunakan tentara infanteri Perancis saat ini. Kontrak pertama MMP tentara Perancis mencakup suplai 400 unit pos tembak dan misil. Menurut MBDA, tembakan pertama Jaguar akan dilaksanakan di tahun Jaguar tersebut juga dipersenjatakan lengkap dengan 40mm Case Telescoped Armament System dan senapan 7.62mm di atas atapnya. Walaupun pada awalnya digunakan untuk operasi militer di daratan, pada pameran Euronaval di Le Bourget diungkapkan bahwa MMP juga dapat digunakan di kapal berkecepatan tinggi yang dipasangkan turet berisi empat MMP. Saat ini MMP MBDA diproduksi dan diperuntukkan untuk tentara Perancis Kesuksesan uji coba penembakan misil Uji coba penembakan misil kapal supersonik milik BrahMos telah dilaksanakan pada bulan Juli di Integrated Test Range (ITR) yang terletak di Chandipur, India. 8 8 Radar for small warships, support vessels BY RICHARD SCOTT Thales has unveiled a new dual-axis multibeam active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar designed to provide surveillance and target indication for small warships, offshore patrol vessels and amphibious/afloat support shipping. Designated NS50, the rotating, single-face X-band system is the latest addition to Thales s family of 4D AESA radars (the company uses the term 4D to characterise radars able to provide Doppler measurement as well as bearing, range and elevation information). Sharing significant commonality with the company s NS100 and NS200 S-band air surveillance radars in terms of software and architecture, NS50 is being positioned to replace the Variant radar in the Thales radar portfolio. Smaller warships and amphibious/auxiliary vessels have typically been fitted with 2D radars limited to providing range and bearing information only. This necessarily limits the quality of air/ surface detection, tracking and classification performance provided to the host ship. We are launching NS50 to address this market, and provide small ships and support vessels with the benefits of a true 4D AESA multifunction radar, said Serge Adrian, Thales s senior vice president for surface radar. So NS50 will bring similar performance benefits as our other 4D AESA radars, albeit with a lower range. He continued: The new 4D technology we provide increases dwell time on target and gives our users the access to a level of information that wasn t accessible before. Furthermore, our 4D technology provides a combination of surveillance and weapon support functionality. The principal innovation being introduced with NS50 is an ultra-thin AESA antenna made up of a number of XARA (X-band active radar array) tiles, Each XARA tile comprises 16x16 transmit/ receive elements. Two NS50 variants are being offered to market. The NS54, which uses eight XARA tiles, The NS58 variant of NS50 features 16 XARA tiles is seen as a direct replacement for Variant, while the NS58 (featuring 16 XARA tiles) is a more powerful radar that would provide corvettes with a range capability similar to the previous MW08 C-band radar. NS50 features two operational modes. In standard air/surface surveillance mode, the antenna rotates at 15rpm. In defence mode, the rotation rate is 60rpm to increase the update rate and provide track quality sufficient for fire control against surface targets. Another advantage touted by Thales (Hall B, Stand B56) is the software-defined functionality of NS50. According to the company, its radar product road map will enable the introduction of new techniques and waveforms through life, and allow NS50 to leverage new software-based modes transposed from the larger NS100 and NS200 systems. BY GÜNTER ENDRES CIMCO Marine s OXE Diesel high-performance outboard engine is now available in Asia and Reliability, strength and endurance is being presented here by Tractors Singapore (Hall B, Stand B243), which has been appointed the official distributor for south-east Asia and the Maldives. The China Engineers company is the distributor for mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. A marinised modern GM automotive engine, OXE Diesel is setting new standards for safety, durability, fuel efficiency and low emissions. It fulfils the NATO single-fuel directive and is optimised to reduce total life-cycle costs. It is also the only outboard diesel engine approved by the EU Recreational Craft Directive, which sets technical, safety and environmental standards for the trade of boats, personal watercraft, marine engines and components in Europe. The engine has been converted for marine use by employing separate systems for seawater, heat exchangers, intercooler and oil cooler, and functionality that ensures the electrical system, fuel system and air intake withstand marine conditions. The reduction in fuel consumption and the hydro-dynamically optimised lower housing increase range and allow for extended operational time between refuelling. OXE Diesel is aimed at military, rescue and commercial applications.

C-Guard dapat memiliki cakupan 360 dan dapat mendeteksi serangan-serangan seperti misil jarak dekat, misil infrared, dan torpedo. C-Guards dilengkapi dengan desain launcher 130mm NATO tanpa roda penggerak. Terma dengan bangga telah menjadi bagian dari supplier untuk Indonesia dan menanti kelanjutan kerjasama lebih jauh dengan militer Indonesia, kata Maaløe.

14 INCORPORATING WITH INCORPORATING WITH 14 Regional revival on upward t BY GÜNTER ENDRES After many years of delays and setbacks, interest in Indonesia s indigenous N219 Nurtanio regional turboprop aircraft, named by President Joko Widodo after Nurtanio Pringgoadisuryo, one of the country s foremost aviation pioneers, is accelerating, now that expected certification is only a few months away, tentatively set for April or May next year. State-owned enterprise PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PT DI) (BUMNIP Pavilion) plans to deliver the first two aircraft to Thailand in 2019 and last month also signed a memorandum of understanding with Jakartabased PT Aviastar Mandiri for 20 aircraft, which would be used to serve isolated locations in Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Nusa Tenggara and Papua. According to PT DI president director Elfien Goentoro, interest has also been expressed by operators from Madagascar, Congo and Senegal,

15 rajectory as well as from Norway, where the N219 s short take-off and landing (STOL) performance from short, rugged airstrips is particularly valued. Other customers are said to include Lion Air, Pelita Air, Trigana Air Service, Nusantara Buana Air and Air Born, adding up to a total of 120 aircraft. The company projects a requirement for 276 units over the next 10 years, of which 96 will serve the local market. Production could start early in 2019, ramping up from a modest six units in the first year, to 16 in 2020 and 36 every year thereafter. The N219, a joint venture between PTDI and the Indonesia National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN), is a 19-seat aircraft powered 15 by two 850hp Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-42 turboprop engines driving four-bladed Hartzell propellers, designed for multipurpose missions from semi-prepared airstrips in remote areas. It boasts what is claimed the largest cabin volume in its class, which, together with a wide cargo door, offers a multirole and quick-change capability to fulfil various requirements such as troop transport, medical evacuation, cargo transport, surveillance and search and rescue. Under consideration is a float-equipped version that would be capable of linking major hubs with small communities on the more than 2,000 inhabited islands on the Indonesian archipelago. The prototype, PK-XDT, made its maiden flight on 16 August 2017 at Bandung s Husein Sastranegara International Airport in West Java and will be certificated by the Directorate of Civil Aviation of Indonesia s Transport Ministry and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) after completion of the required 2,000 flight test hours. The purchase price has been stated at $5.8-6 million. Earlier this year, PT DI signed purchasing agreements for other aircraft on its production line. These included two NC-212 Series 200 and one CN-235 Series 220 twin-turboprops for maritime patrol and surveillance for the Senegalese Air Force, and one CN-235 Series 220 military transport for the Ivory Coast Air Force, at a total value of $75 million. The Senegalese CN-235 will be delivered next year, as will a similar aircraft ordered previously by Nepal. The company manufactures 10 aircraft a year from its portfolio, which also includes the NC212i, NC212i MSA (maritime surveillance aircraft) and CN295 tactical military transport. 18 18 MMP evaluated in high temperatures BY CHRISTOPHER F FOSS MBDA (Hall D, Stand D210) has confirmed that the French Army carried out a successful evaluation of its Missile Moyenne Portée (MMP) anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) in Djibouti between August and September 2018, which proved its ability to operate in a desert environment. MMP is the replacement for the MILAN and the US Raytheon/Lockheed Martin Javelin ATGM currently deployed by French infantry units. The first French Army MMP contract covers the supply of 400 firing posts and 2,850 missiles. MMP ATGM consists of the missile in its disposable launch tube and the firing post, which contains the Safran electro-optical package that includes a TV/cooled infrared sensor with three selectable fields of view: large (x4 magnification), intermediate (x12 magnification) and narrow (x18 magnification). The firing post also includes an embedded global positioning system, digital magnetic compass and a laser rangefinder sensor assembly. The MMP is fitted with a tandem multipurpose high-explosive anti-tank to defeat targets fitted with explosive reactive armour, but the operator can also select an anti-infantry mode for maximum blast and anti-personnel effect. MMP has a maximum range of more than 4,000m, but reached 5,000m during recent demonstrations. MBDA is also studying a longer range version called the MLP, which is one of the MBDA MMP is now in production and service with the French Army potential contenders for the Tiger Mk 3 attack helicopter. The operator can select one of two modes of operation: lock-on-before-launch, which is the fire and forget mode; and lock-on-after-launch, which is with the human-in-the-loop for non-line of-sight target engagement. Two MMPs are integrated into the right side of the turret of the Jaguar (6x6) reconnaissance vehicle, with an additional two MMPs in reserve for manual loading. The first firings from the Jaguar are due early in 2019, according to MBDA. The Jaguar is also armed with a 40mm Case Telescoped Armament System and roofmounted 7.62mm remote weapon station. Although originally developed for land operations, it was revealed at the recent Euronaval exhibition held at Le Bourget that the MMP also has a naval application following a successful launch from a rigid-hulled inflatable boat moving at high speed. For fast patrol boat applications, a stabilised turret with four protected MMP in the firing position is being proposed. Successful test firing for missile The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test fired from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur, India, in July to validate its service life extension. Sources at India s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) stated that the missile flew in its pre-set trajectory and met its mission objectives. The test followed two trials conducted on successive days in May, in which the major subsystems manufactured under the Make in India campaign were evaluated. As a result, critical indigenous components, including the fuel management system and other non-metallic airframe components, have been qualified to form part of the missile. The precision strike weapon is in operational use with the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. BrahMos is a two-stage missile with a solid propellant booster engine as the first stage, which brings it to supersonic speed before separating. The liquid ramjet then takes the missile closer to Mach 3 cruise. Stealth technology and guidance system with advanced embedded software add to its capabilities. Operating on the fire and forget principle, the missile has a flight range of 290km with supersonic speed throughout the flight, leading to a shorter flight time, ensuring quicker engagement time and non-interception. Its maximum cruising altitude is 15km. In a successful test in March, a much longer range was achieved, believed to have been around 450km. A hypersonic version is under development. 20 High degree of realism Spain s Indra (Hall A, Stand A277), a global technology and consulting company in the transport and defence markets, is highlighting its partnership with the Spanish Army in the Helicopter Simulation Centre (CESIHEL), one of the most advanced simulation centres in Europe, especially in the joint tactical training of crews. The simulation centre comprises flight simulators and helicopter trainers for the CH-47D Chinook, AS532 Cougar, EC135 and EC665 Tiger, located at two different bases: Colmenar Viejo, with six simulators, and Almagro, where two simulators of the Tiger helicopter are located. All of these have been developed with Indra technology. In 2019, two NH90 simulators, also developed by Indra, will enter service at the Agoncillo Base. Courses range from initial type certification on the helicopter to the most complex tactical training, and the level of the simulator technology, especially in terms of its capacity to provide network-operated joint training, makes 20 CESIHEL a centre of reference in Europe. CESIHEL makes it possible to train in the most complex and high-risk missions, with a high degree of realism, in all kinds of scenarios, featuring multiple threats and in all types of weather conditions. Operations with night vision goggles are a speciality. Several scenarios are available, both in the national territory as well as areas of operation abroad and areas of importance for national defence, including Visual of Tiger helicopter simulator international deployments and conflict zones. Through its partnership agreement with the army, Indra provides maintenance and enhancement services for the simulators. In return, the army allows the use of the facility, whenever available, for Indra to provide training services to other clients. Indra has a local presence in 46 countries, including Indonesia, and business operations in more than 140 countries. 22 Drones defeated TRD Consultancy (Singapore) (Hall B, Stand BP159) is highlighting its Orion-I MP, a manpack drone detection system, claimed to be the first of its kind in the world. The Orion-I MP has been designed to integrate the jamming capability of its Orion-H jammer gun with a manpack detection system. The Orion-I is a passive radio frequency (RF) system capable of detecting, classifying and directionfinding drones while also able to identify friend or foe (IFF). It can be deployed quickly to provide close-range security protection for VVIPs, as well as for areas that fixed-site or vehicle-mounted systems cannot cover. Under development is a fully integrated system consisting of RF direction finding, camera and radar configurations for fixed and vehicular application. The company has also relaunched its new generation Orion-H (Version 3) anti-drone jammer gun, which weighs less than 2.5kg and can be carried using only two fingers. This all-weather jammer gun has a selectable function for three band frequencies that can take down any commercial drones within seconds, or send them home within visual range. The design includes an LED display that provides information such as built-in compass and battery level. With a main office in Singapore and another at Yangon, Myanmar, TRD also offers system integration, supply, C 4 I, security and consultancy. According to ECA Group, this is the first time a drone has been used to check the magnetic signature of a vessel in order to assess its vulnerability against underwater mines and other unfriendly detectors. Although developed in Malaysia with all source codes available and easily customisable, Sharp, clear image Canadian company GSCI (Hall B, Stand B077), a partner of Photonis Technologies, is showcasing its ITAR-free Quadro-G Fusion Goggles, the newest addition to its expansive line-up of advanced detection systems and designed as a counterpart to the Quadro-S Fusion Weapon Sight. With the Quadro-G, we ve taken the core functionality of the Quadro-S and pivoted away from its weapon-mounted operation to instead focus on a tactical goggle that is better suited for versatile, short- to medium-range surveillance and reconnaissance, said the company s lead technician. The dual-eyepiece design is paired with a lightweight, helmet-mountable housing that makes the Quadro-G the only true fusion system of its kind. In this manner, it can complete the assessment in less than an hour in operational conditions, whereas traditional methods require the vessel to be laid up for several days. Said Colonel Anis Kelaikan of the Indonesian MoD: Using the latest technology certainly has an impact on the effectiveness and efficiency without reducing the purpose and the objective of the test, so using STERNA will be much faster than the old method and will provide us with more accurate results. Besides the direct computation and evaluation of the MAD risk, it can evaluate the escape scenario and mine risk, as well as checking the magnetic signature and efficiency of the degaussing system all while the vessel is moving. Further developments have been done and will be continued in order to optimise its performances for operations at sea, said Guénaël Guillerme, ECA Group chief executive. The combatproven mini-helicopter drone is already in operational service with the French armed forces in Mali and integrated with several other armies. 24 24 Jam to protect BY SAM J BASCH Countering the threat to convoys and personnel of remote-controlled improvised explosive devices (RCIEDs) poses a challenge, for which South Africa-based GEW Technologies (Hall B, Stand B83) has a solution: its flagship GMJ9 multirole jammer for convoy protection and the GMJ9000 man-portable system. In a recent demonstration in South Africa to military attachés from around the world, the company put these systems through their paces in an interactive simulated threat scenario. The next-generation GMJ9 convoy protection system uses reactive and adaptive waveform jamming technology to suppress multiple simultaneous Compact man-portable GMJ9000 jammer trigger signals anywhere in the RF spectrum. According to GEW, the GMJ9 offers multiple roles in convoy protection, as the same platform can be used for a variety of missions in a stand-in or stand-off communications jammer. The company believes manufacturers of armoured personnel carriers would do well to integrate the GMJ9 as a standard solution. The GMJ9000 portable jammer was designed to protect man-on-the-move personnel from RCIED threats. RCIEDs are triggered by radio signals from devices such as cellphones, radios and satellite phones. GEW Technologies has applied the latest RF and digital signal synthesis technology to suppress remote activation signals and this system is able to jam multiple threats simultaneously. The effective jamming range and high portability of the man-pack solutions make this family of jammers particularly suitable for individual and patrol protection, as well as soldier-carried communications jamming missions. After 50 years of providing detection and protection capabilities to the military and civil sectors, GEW Technologies has just been consolidated with Hensoldt s optronics subsidiary in South Africa. A breath of fresh air UK-based Avon Protection Systems (Hall A, Stand A247) is highlighting the new AvonAir modular chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) respiratory protection. This is the first adaptive powered air system able to be configured to match changing operational conditions and includes the EZAir power module, the FM54 mask, the MP-PAPR and the CS-PAPR, its newest generation of powered air purifying respirator. The new systems are substantially smaller and quieter than traditional powered air units, and offer enhanced protection against toxic industrial chemicals and, importantly for the military, ease of weapon sighting and integrated communications. Avon Protection has also announced that it obtained NFPA1801:2018 certification of its Argus range of thermal imaging cameras, which include the Mi-TIC E, Mi-TIC E L, Mi-TIC 320 and Mi-TIC S models. The NFPA1801:2018 certification includes the introduction of the IGNIS engine to all Mi-TIC models. The IGNIS engine, along with its sensor and lens improvements, provides exceptional scene detail, enabling firefighters to see more of the important background details such as exit points, obstacles and casualties, even in the presence of a fully developed fire. Key changes in the 2018 edition include limitations on cameras with visible light sensors, an increased battery run-time of at least two hours while capturing video, a refresh rate of at least 25Hz, and a new battery locking mechanism.

26 26 Sukhoi Su-30 being prepared for flight test One-stop shop BY GÜNTER ENDRES JSC 558 Aircraft Repair Plant (ARP, Hall A, Stand A265) is the only enterprise in Belarus providing a wide range of aviation services. Its main focus is on the repair and modernisation of various types of aircraft, including the Mi-8 (Mi-17, Mi-171) and Mi-24 (Mi-35) helicopters and Mikoyan MiG-29, Sukhoi Su-27, Su-22, Su-25 and Su-27, and Antonov An-2 aircraft. Under the modernisation programmes, all aircraft and helicopters are protected by its own Satellite-M airborne ECM protection suite, which is operated from a control and display panel in the cockpit, giving the pilot the option to select the appropriate jamming mode, including constant operation, automatic activation and Kondor-1 UAV Satellite-M ECM protection on a MiG-29 disabling. An example is the capability upgrade of the MiG-29, which also includes a phalanx of new extended-range precision air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons, and aerial bombs, as well as upgraded cockpit control and navigation instrumentation. The company also pays much attention to the development and production of unmanned aerial systems (UASs) headed by the twin-boom Grif-K, whose composite construction ensures low infrared, radar and visual signature. Grif-K can operate in automatic and manual mode, with complete missions during day and night in various weather conditions. Kondor-1 and Kondor-2 are intended for area defence missile system (ADMS) crew training, enabling the simulation of targets such as fighter jets, bombers and cruise missiles, while the hand-launched Bekard-1 and catapultlaunched Bekard-2 provide electro-optic night/ day terrain reconnaissance over an operational range from 15 to 25km. Both are landed by parachute. The rotary-wing Shershen is designed for remote terrain monitoring within a range of up to 5km at any time of day and night in close to realtime mode using gyrostabilised video cameras. 30 Innovative barrier The Moscow-based Russian company Polus-ST (Stand BP128) has been providing autonomous perimeter security solutions for about 15 years, writes Sam J Basch. Its latest innovation, the Radiobarrier CSS perimeter security system, has successfully protected and secured more than 7,000km of state borders, 3,500km of pipelines and infrastructure, and approach routes to some 500 sensitive facilities in 25 countries. The Radiobarrier CSS is lightweight and compact, and comprises detection devices based on different physical principles of operation. Each set may include up to 20 devices, including a receiver, cameras and repeaters. Its control unit enables full remote control, as well as alarm and service data to be transmitted via a two-way secure radio channel. The easy-to-use surveillance tool can be set up around assets in a matter of minutes. Flexible and ergonomic, it provides force protection, fulfils reconnaissance missions and creates temporary perimeters. An important advantage is that it can be used both as a standalone and self-contained solution for large perimeters and as an integrated part of multi-layered systems. Deploying Radiobarrier as an early warning detection system gives security personnel time to safely react to potential threats. 30 Training partner Politeknik Kodiklatad has its array of training systems on display here at the show, all of which it uses to provide operational training to the Indonesian army. The systems range from unmanned ground vehicles, rotary- and fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles, to training mortars and rocket rounds. It has been providing operational training to the Indonesian army for some 10 years, a representative of Politeknik Kodiklatad told the Show Daily, and while the domestic operator is the primary one, the mortar and rocket systems could be mass-produced and exported if required, they said. The Army Doctrine, Education and Training Development Command, or Kodiklatad, is headquartered in West Java, where the polytechnic that provides the tutoring is also based.
