1 Abstract In running its operational, a company will always compete with other companies especially with the ones of a kind. To survive and to keep developing the business a company is supposed to carry out its production activities effectively and efficiently. PT. Golden Metal Industries that runs its operation in producing motor cycle spare parts, uses machines in doing its production activities. A machine must have the capability and should better be in the condition that can support the company activities. For the machine to have a capability and the condition of ready to produce, a maintenance should be carried out. The maintenance done by every machine will be different according to their characteristics. There are two kinds of maintenance ; that is preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance. Every of these two has their own plus and minus factors that in doing the maintenance to the machine, the devices and facilities of a company will differ. The maintenance of the machine carried out by PT. Golden Metal Industries upon die casting machine is by using the preventive one. This is due to avoid the damage of the machine itself. Research shows that Pt. Golden Metal Industries should better use the corrective maintenance for its machines as it is considered suitable and more efficient in the maintenance cost compared to the preventive one. 2 ABSTRAK Dalam menjalankan kegiatan opersionalnya suatu perusahaan akan selalu bersaing dengan perusahaan lain terutama dengan perusahaan yang sejenis. Untuk dapat bertahan dan terus mengembangkan usahanya perusahaan dituntut agar dapat melakukan kegiatan produksinya dengan efektif dan efisien. PT. Golden Metal Industies yang beroprasi dalam pembuatan komponen sepeda motor, menggunakan mesin dalam melakukan kegiatan produksinya. Sebuah mesin harus dapat memiliki keandalan dan diharapkan selalu dalam kondisi yang dapat menunjang kegiatan perusahaan, untuk itu maka harus dilakukan maintenance. Maintenance yang dilakukan pada setiap mesin akan berbeda sesuai dengan karekteristik mesin tersbut. Terdapat dua jenis maintenance yaitu preventive maintenance dan corrective maintenance. Setiap jenis maintenance ini memiliki keunggulan dan kelemahan tersendiri, sehinga dalam melakukan maintenance pada mesin, peralatan dan fasilitas perusahaan akan berbeda. Perawatan mesin yang digunakan oleh PT. Golden Metal Industries terhadap mesin die casting adalah dengan menggunakan preventive maintenance. Hal ini ditujukan agar tidak terjadinya kerusakan pada mesin. Hasil penelitian menunjukan untuk PT. Golden Metal Industries lebik cocok menggunakan corrective maintenance dalam perawatan mesin karena coorective maintenance lebih efisien dalam biaya maintenance yang dikeluarkan dari pada preventive maintenance.
