1 ABSTRACT Companies that have go public listed in the add funds of operations can be obtained through the sale of shares to investors. Stock prices are too low often means that the company have less good performance. Stock prices are too high causing the stock is not liquid. The higher the stock price, caused the smaller the shares were purchased by investors. Management of companies believes that to have a good relationship with the community, the wider ownership is required. Because they want to have a market price is low enough to be within the limits of the majority of potential investors to purchase the shares. To reduce the value of the stock market, commonly used way is to make stock split. With regard to that, so this research tries to determine if there are differences in stock prices and trading volume before and after the stock split the company did. Purposive sampling, normality data model, and paired sample t-test are used in the research. The results showed that significant influence stock prices and trading volume before and after the stock split the company did. Keywords: stock price, stock split, trading volume. vi
2 ABSTRAK Perusahaan yang sudah go public dalam menambah dana kegiatan operasionalnya dapat diperoleh melalui penjualan saham kepada para investor. Harga saham yang terlalu rendah sering diartikan bahwa perusahaan memliki kinerja perusahan yang kurang baik. Harga saham yang terlalu tinggi menyebabkan saham tersebut tidak liquid. Makin tinggi harga saham, makin kecil saham tersebut dibeli oleh investor. Manajemen dari perusahaan yakin bahwa untuk menjalin hubungan yang baik dengan masyarakat, kepemilikan yang lebih luas diperlukan. Karena itu mereka ingin memiliki harga pasar yang cukup rendah sehingga berada dalam batas kemampuan mayoritas calon investor. Untuk mengurangi nilai pasar saham, cara yang biasa dipakai adalah melakukan stock split. Berkenaan dengan hal tersebut, maka penelitian ini mencoba untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan harga saham dan volume perdagangan saham sebelum dan setelah perusahaan melakukan stock split. Sampel diambil dengan menggunakan metode purposive sampling. Alat analisis data menggunakan uji normalitas, dan paired sample T-Test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ada pengaruh yang signifikan harga saham dan volume perdagangan saham sebelum dan sesudah perusahaan melakukan stock split.
